Introduction
Singapore is the top bunkering port in the world last year, with sales
of ship fuel over 25 million tones. With the aim to safeguard the quality
of bunkers throughout the entire supply chain by establishing an unbroken
chain of control, SPRING Singapore, in collaboration with the industry
and MPA, has published the SS 524:2006; the Singapore Standard for Quality
Management for Bunker Supply Chain (QMBS).
This is the first national quality management standard for the bunkering
industry, and Singapore will be the first port in the world to introduce
such a standard for bunker suppliers.
About the Standard
SS 524 is modeled on ISO 9001:2000, and will supersede TR 8:2003 Technical
Reference on Quality Management for Bunker Supply Chain.
TR 8 will be withdrawn from 01st Jun 2007, and the industry will be required
to comply with the newly published SS 524. Failure to comply with SS 524
will result in the non-renewal of license.
