International Safety Management (ISM) Code

The International Safety Management (ISM) Code was adopted by the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) in November 1993 and made mandatory under Chapter IX of the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS). The Code sets out to ensure safety at sea, prevent human injury or loss of life, and avoid damage to the marine environment and property. Phase I of the ISM Code came into force on 1st July 1998 and Phase II on 1st July 2002.

STET Maritime Bureau has a team of experienced auditors certified by the International Register of Certificated Auditors (IRCA) who are able to conduct first and second party ISM audits on behalf of shipping companies.

STET Maritime Bureau can also provide Interim, Initial, Intermediate and Renewal verification audit service on behalf of Panama and various other flag administration for the issuance of the company Document of Compliance (DOC) and vessel Safety Management Certificate (SMC)

These audits and management reviews on the Safety Management System are not only desirable but also mandatory for the maintenance of the Safety Management Certificate. Our auditors not only determine conformities of the existing system to the requirement of the ISM code but is also able to suggest improvements.

STET Maritime Bureau are familiar with the requirements and operation of Quality Management Systems of ISO9002 and the Safety Management System of ISM Code, and can provide assistance in compiling of manuals and establishing of Quality / Safety systems and procedures, in preparation for accreditation.
