AIM
The
aim of the course is to prepare candidates appearing for the
Port Limit Helmsman Manning Licence or Class 6 (Deck
Officer) Examination.

PRE-REQUISITES REQUIREMENTS
Port
Limit Helmsman
-
Citizens or permanent residents of at least 20 years of
age;
-
Have passed an approved eyesight test; and
-
Have within the past 5 years, served a total of at least
18 months in the capacity of a master or steersman while
holding a Port Limit Steersman licence, in one or more
of the following power-driven vessels:
-
licensed harbour craft; or
-
vessels belonging to the Government of Singapore or a
Statutory Board; or
-
sea-going vessels engaged in trade, trawlers or deep-sea
fishing vessels.
Class 6 (Deck Officer) Preparatory
-
Have served at sea for at least 24 months on deck in an
approved capacity on vessels of at least 300 GT or
tugboats of not less than 50 GT within the Port Limits;
or
-
Have served at sea for at least 18 months on deck in an
approved capacity on vessels of over 25 GT trading
regularly outside the Port Limits; or
-
Have served at sea for at least 24 months on deck in a
PORT LIMIT approved capacity on vessels of not less than
20 metres in length and carrying more than 12 passengers
within the Port Limits;

Have passed Medical Test for a sea-going officer;
-
A letter of eligibility from MPA’s Shipping Division to
sit for the examination on production of certificates,
testimonial of sea services, etc.
