Captain Kumar Thottapilli ANIL Senior Manager, Maritime Education, STET Maritime Pte Ltd |
Captain Kumar is the Senior Manager Maritime Studies of STET Maritime Pte Ltd. He joined the Company on 15 May 2008.
Prior to joining STET Maritime, Captain Kumar was sailing as a Master in command of the Singapore flagged 101134 DWT, M.T.Barawati, a Crude Oil Tanker managed by Wallem Shipmanagement Ltd, Hong Kong.
He started his sea career as a Cadet in Jan 1973 and was commissioned into the Executive Branch of the Indian Navy in April 1974. Captain Kumar served on board several Naval ships and
establishments. Tenures at sea included stints as Specialist Warfare Officer on board frigates and Command of a minesweeper. He was also Instructor in the School of Maritime warfare. As the Officer in charge of the Indian Navy’s Naval Academy project located in Cannanore District, India, he was responsible for the security of 2,300 acre estate with a 22 kilometers perimeter that included 7 kilometers of beachfront. Capt Kumar left the Indian Navy in 1992 as a Lieutenant Commander, in order to pursue a career in the Merchant Navy.
Captain Kumar joined the Shipping Corporation of India in 1992 and later joined Wallem Shipmanagement Ltd, Hong Kong in 1994 where he served until joining STET Maritime. His long experience on merchant vessels has been mainly on VLCCs, Suezmax and Aframax size oil tankers.
Captain Kumar is a Master Mariner. He is a member of the Company of Master Mariners of India, Mumbai and the United Services Institute of India, New Delhi.
