AIM
This course is
intended to provide participants with a broad understanding
of how the shipping industry operates and functions in both
the domestic and international arena. It is suitable for
anyone who is new to the shipping industry or has some
knowledge of the industry.
OBJECTIVE OF COURSE
On successful completion, the
participants shall be able to:

the location of major ports, canals and waterways in the
different regions of the world as well as discuss the
effects of geography on shipping.

why international trade is important to countries and
for the rest of the world and the role of shipping in
this vast trading network.

how the different types of cargo are categorized, stored
on board the ship and transported over the seas.

Identify the different types of ships that are currently
in operation

Describe the function of the Bill of Lading as well as
the role of the different types of Charter Parties.

Discuss
the various international conventions that are related
to shipping

Explain
the different types of ship registry and the importance
of classification societies

Identify who are the principal and intermediaries in
the shipping industry as well as the differences between
this two group

Explain
the various terms and concepts related to basic
accounting
