AIM
The aim of the
BTM course is to ensure that officers are trained and
prepared to respond safely and efficiently for controlling
the bridge operations. A good bridge team management will
enable the team to tackle unexpected events and reduce the
potential confusion and hence minimize error. Bridge team
that has successful completed this course will have good
teamwork, good co-ordination, communication and capabilities
of handling emergencies.
OBJECTIVE OF COURSE
The BTM course
complies with IMO Model Course 1.22 "Ship Simulator and
Bridge Teamwork". Participants who successfully completed
this course will have gained experienced in handling ships
under various conditions and will make a more effective
contribution to the bridge team during ship manoeuvring in
normal and emergency situations.
COVERAGE OF BTM COURSE
The BTM course
comprises the following 5 modules:
Module
1: Bridge Team Principles
Module
2: Principles of Ship Handling
Module
3: Collision Regulation
Module 4:
Simulator Exercises covering familiarisation in Open
Sea. Application of BTM principles during normal
navigational watch keeping, Application of Shiphandling
Skills (Effects of current, wind, shallow water effects)
Module 5:
Simulator Exercises: Collosion Avoidance in difficult
situations and traffic conditions and Application of
Collision Avoidance, Navigational Watch Keeping
Requirements, Handling of Emergencies, and Application of
Bridge Team Work Principles.
TRAINING METHODOLOGY
The BTM course
will be conducted using the following methodology:
1. Teaching and
facilitating during the classroom lectures.
2. Practical in
the Full Mission Shiphandling Simulator.
